Three Class 126 DMS 'intermediate' power cars face the camera in Kyle Street yard in Ayr. Undated. The car on the left has the gangway plated over, the centre one carries a gangway cover, the one on the right has no cover. Andrew McConnell.

April 1980

Distant Past. An interesting array of DMUs in Ayr Kyle Street Sidings. From the left it looks like a Class 126 TSL, Class 120 Cross Country Power Car, Class 116 Derby Suburban, Class 126 TSL, Class 126 Leading and Class 126 Intermediate to the right on the short road. The Swindon Cross Country is one of a number that spent a short spell at Ayr after the Aberdeen to Inverness services went over to Type 2 haulage. They eventually went south. The Class 120 is probably a DMC (three leading saloon windows) and Railcar suggests this could be Sc51787. Enlargement from half frame 35 mm negative - not great quality, but not great weather either! Uncollated negative but possibly April 1980. alicia hartman.

Set: 126406

End of Days. The last two Swindon Inter-City Sets are ticking over in Kyle Street Sidings. 126 406 (Sc51017) is nearest the camera and the rear set will be 126 413. Probably a Sunday in Autumn 1982 as the light fades on a dreich afternoon. alicia hartman.

 DMU

August 1982

Sc51017 and Sc51043 face off in Ayr (Kyle St sidings), August 1982. The vehicles were then part of the last two Class 126 units to survive (126 413 and 126 406). The best example of each type of 126 vehicle from the last two sets were remarshalled to form the now preserved Class 126 unit, 126 413 (Sc51017, Sc59404, Sc51043). Andrew McConnell.

August 1982

The surviving Class 126 sets (126 406 and 413) together with loose power car Sc51016 sit in Ayr (Kyle St) carriage sidings in August 1982. The sets had been both withdrawn and reinstated in this month, eventually surviving in traffic until January '83. Andrew McConnell.

 DMU

August 1982

Sc51016 waits a turn of service that would never come Ayr (Kyle St) August 1982. The vehicle is the last one shown in service apart from the final two Sets (126 413 and 406) which would soldier on until January of the following year. Andrew McConnell.

12th September 1982

It’s Not Unusual. Swindon Class 126 Inter-City Intermediate Driving Car Sc51016 at Kyle Street Sidings, Ayr. It was not unusual to see a Swindon power car here on its own. However, by this time there were only a handful of IC Sets still in traffic. Sunday 12 September 1982. alicia hartman.

 DMU

January 1984

Ayr Variety. DMBS M53461 (104 452) + TBS E59225 + DMBS M53452 (104 450). Triple brake Class 104 lash up stabled at Kyle Street Sidings with two Set identities! Probably made up of vehicles scavenged from south of the border after the fire at Ayr Depot. January 1984. alicia hartman.
